Bloodwood is the common name of several species of wood, most but not all, hailing from South America. Bloodwood can vary in color due to species variations from a dark red to a more faded rusty color. Bloodwood will darken in time. It is a very hard wood that can at times even be a bit brittle. It turns well on the lathe and due to its hardness will polish to a great shine.
